When the Whistle Blows

As a lifeguard growing up and now as a mum, I have had a lot of practice saying, “Stop”.  “Stop running.” “Stop fighting.”  “Stop arguing.”  “Stop, before you get hurt.”

The shrill blast of a Fox 40 whistle is a real attention getter.  It can be more challenging to get our children’s attention at home.  I wonder how God feels about how tiring it can be trying to get my attention.

How often do I sense that prick of conscience and ignore it?  How often to I tread down a path that I somehow know will not go well for me?

John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6-8)  He tells us that He has plans for us. (Jeremiah 29:11)

If you were going on a trip and had programmed your GPS to get you to your destination, would you listen to it’s directions?

If you came to a railroad track and the lights were flashing and the gate was down would you keep on going?

Isaiah 30:21
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

God will guide us, we just need to listen to the whistle.

Psalm 119:35
Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
