Be Who God Wants You to Be and Set the World on Fire

Last spring, we attended a Duke of Edinburgh award ceremony.  A number of young people had completed the award and were being recognized for their effort.  The Governor General of Canada addressed the assembly and esteemed the attitudes and dedication of the participants.  His closing remarks were what stood out most significantly.

“Be who God wants you to be and set the world on fire!”

Wow!  That was an amazing statement for a public speaker – especially outside of a church.  There were some in the crowd who seemed a little squirmy.  Some really didn’t care.  Some, though, heard what he was saying.

“Be who God wants you to be.”  Such simple words.  Aren’t they?

Genesis 22:18
and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.

There are consequences to our actions and God tells us here that the consequences for obedience are blessing!

Who does God want you to be?  I don’t know.  How do you find out?  Ask Him.

Spending time talking to God (prayer) and reading His Word (the Bible), are quintessential to knowing what He has for your life.

I Peter 4:10-11

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

“…and set the world on fire!”

There is a lot of motivation here.  Being whom God has designed us to be will make a difference.

Sometimes, it is very difficult to step out in faith and take on something way outside of your comfort zone.  That is ok.  That comfort zone, in many cases, serves to protect us.  But, if God is prompting you to do something for Him, you can be sure that whatever that is it will be incredible.

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritualact of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Well said, Stephanie and I would say also that it well represents who you are. Even the conference this past weekend was a great example of all you and Jeff offer. I have heard amazing feedback of how valuable that was in people’s lives – so thank you.
